Photo Gallery: Cane Trains and Brumbies

Posted on January 14, 2023January 14, 2023

Here are some additional photos from our visit. This is just a sample as I took over 600 while we were there. |Others will be included with subsequent posts. Above: The community of Goldsborough as seen from the top of Ralph and KC’s driveway. The empty lot next to them still has some sugar cane growing on it.

Marshs Pyramid, a small mountain just outside Gordonvale and before Goldsborough. It’s popular with climbers.
The Mulgrave Sugar Mill in Gordonvale.
A banana farm. The banana bunches are bagged to keep birds and fruit bats from eating them.
Some cockatoos foraging on the ground. Often you’ll pass a flock of them along the road scrounging for food.
I managed to catch one cockatoo in flight. While stunningly beautiful to see, their call is raucous and squawky.
While we saw large fruit bats flying over at dusk, I didn’t manage to get a photo. But I did get one of this little guy roosting near a lamp at the front door.
And a couple of geckos too, cavorting above the patio.
A group of brumbies including a young foal.
Brumby greets Ralph.
A useful business card hanging on our hosts’ fridge.
The sign on the roadside bench says it all!
